Rowing at Eton College has developed some of the most able schoolboy athletes in the country. Etonians, both current and alumni, have produced an impressive set of results over the summer of 2022.
At the Junior World Rowing Championships, Saxon Stacey OE, who left at the end of the Summer Half, came first in the U19 Coxless Four competition as the bowman of his Team GB boat. Joseph O also received a medal after finishing second in the U19 Eights competition. Also competing was Arthur S who came eighth in the U19 Coxless Pair competition. It is fair to say that Eton was well represented at this event.
Two OEs won gold medals at the U23 World Rowing Championships with Henry Pearson OE and Harry Geffen OE coming first in the U23 Coxed Four and the U23 Eight, respectively. Meanwhile, Theo Bell OE joined Constantine Louloudis OE in an exclusive club of winning gold at U23 level in the year that they left the College.
Jamie G won a total of four medals, three gold and one silver, for the U19 B team at the Coupe de la Jeunesse, competing in the U19 Eight and Coxed Four.
At the European Rowing Championships, David Bewicke-Copley OE won gold rowing for the Men’s Eight. On 25 September, together with the GB Eight, Bewicke-Copley went on to win gold at the World Rowing Championships, bringing the OE World Rowing Championships to five this year.
