Year 9 boys visit the Collections

F-Block were recently given a tour of some highlights from the Collections. Among items on display were the Gutenberg Bible in College Library, a punishment book from the Archives, colours socks in the Museum of Eton Life, the wall paintings in College Chapel and a four-footed duck in the Natural History Museum.

A gift of poetry

Former poet-in-residence Jeremy Clarke visited the Collections to present a copy of his new book, Stone Hours, together with additional manuscripts and working drafts for his archive at Eton. The book is the culmination of nearly two decades of creative work.

Victorian burry restored

Discovered in the basement of Angelo’s in 2020, this ebonised boy’s burry (bureau), carved with the Eton crest, a view of the riverbank and geometric designs, was in a very poor state. Conservation work has been completed: broken areas have been replaced and recurved, handles have been replaced with versions similar to the originals and the ebonised finish has been restored. The burry has now returned to the College, where it is once again in use.
