As the month of November came to a close, we had the time to reflect on what had been an impressive and record-breaking month for the 2024 Eton College Movember team. We have seen moustaches growing to spread the message Movember promotes – the importance of men’s mental and physical health, as well as how crucial the it is to develop further research into prostate and testicular cancer. It is brilliant to see that the team’s hard work has paid off in a record-breaking month.
Led by the tireless efforts of Camran R (Year 13) and the rest of the group, the team has raised over £30,500, meaning that the donations have increased by £16,000 since last year. It has been great to see record numbers taking part, with over 200 boys and supportive staff registered. However, it isn’t just about those taking part. We have also had a vast number of donations from individuals to our team, and we could not be more grateful. Each donation goes towards ground-breaking research and helps get men the support they need.
There have been some great highlights of the campaign, including the Movember merchandise fundraiser on St. Andrew’s Day, and some incredibly impressive moustaches! On St. Andrew’s Day, we were able to raise just shy of £800 through selling Movember beanies, caps, socks, mugs, and much more. Throughout November, we greatly enjoyed seeing the development of each participant’s moustache, with Adi T (Year 13) and Mr Grenier earning the crown of ‘Best Moustache’ for boys and beaks, respectively.
While Movember won’t return until 2025, the commitment to men’s health continues. It is important, especially at an all-boys school, that we keep the spirit of Movember alive by remembering to check in on each other, encourage open conversations, and support those around us all year long.
Thank you to all who contributed in one way or another to make this year so spectacular. It has shown how powerful any community can be when we unite for a good cause.
